1980 BMW E21 323I MOTORSPORTS EUROPEAN MODEL ULTRA RARE FIND ALL ORIGINAL 5 SPEED TRACK READY EMAIL FOR MORE INFO WILL CALL BACK

slammed car...being made fun of on the forums...

the question that must be asked and answered...is 'show car' a legitimate car collector classification...it looks like its wearing 650 csi wheels...nice touch....

stance....DINAN BENCHMARK....

interesting conversation over on the forums.bimmerforums.com...regarding the proper stance of an e21...

For those interested in handling, this is what Dinan considered the ideal ride height for handling. It sits higher than most lowered E21s, and even at this height they modified the sub-frames to improve the geometry.

interiors, and sound deadening mats...

the interior noise and sounds within the car's cabin is always at issue...
below is what i did in an attempt to deaden some of the engine and road noises...

some insightful comments on the forums....''back when Dynamutt first came out, our trim shop suppliers started selling it. One of the first marketing tools they had consisted of two one quart paint can lids, one with a postage stamp sized piece of dynamutt and one without. They had them set up like a gong, with a clapper and you could test the difference in the sound.  I hate to be that guy, but you don't need to cover the whole panel. Just a little on each will do fine to dampen any sympathetic resonance.''

this is how far into the engine bay that i place the matting...the idea was to protect the body from the heat given off by the header...

the following photos are of an 2002 and i am posting them here as an example of what i plan to do after painting my car...

comparison of the s14 starter [left] and the m10 starter [right]

notice that while the s14 support bracket is different some argue that the support bracket is not necessary...i wonder why bmw spent millions in design, engineering, and manufacturing the bracket...take the time and get the right parts...

gas tank

this is an example of the early model gas ventilation tank...i hear that a quick fix on any white non painted plastic is soft scrubb to remove scraches and stains. It works and it works quick.

White plastic turns yellow over time due to a chemical reaction that occurs when it is exposed to light, oils, etc. There are a couple of different ways to get rid of this discoloration, ranging from easy to more difficult. Look through the methods to find one that works best on your particular project. Some are more practical for larger projects, while others are ideal for smaller pieces.

Bleach Method

You Will Need:

  • Bleach
  • Water
  • Bucket or large bowl

Steps to Whiten the Plastic:

  1. Fill a bucket or large bowl with one part bleach and one part water. Fill it enough so that it will cover the yellowed pieces when they are submerged.
  2. Allow the items to soak until they return to the original white color.
  3. When they have reached the desired level of white, remove from the solution and rinse with clean water.
  4. Wash with a mild detergent and allow the pieces to air dry completely.

Sanding Method

You Will Need:

  • Superfine sandpaper
  • Water
  • Soft cloth

Steps to Whiten the Plastic:

  1. For this method, the goal is to lightly sand off the top layer of the plastic that is discolored to reveal a new, white layer.
  2. Begin by wiping down the plastic piece completely.
  3. Rub the superfine sandpaper over the surface to remove the yellowed portions.
  4. When finished, wipe with a moist cloth to remove any dust.

Comet Method

You Will Need:

  • Comet
  • Water
  • Bucket or large bowl
  • Dish detergent
  • Scrubbing sponge

Steps to Whiten the Plastic:

  1. Start by moistening the plastic pieces.
  2. Place some comet on the scrubbing sponge and start scrubbing.
  3. This requires plenty of elbow grease and time, but will take the yellow out with some scrubbing.
  4. When the yellow is removed, wash the piece in water and dish detergent.
  5. Rinse completely with clean water and allow it to dry.

Peroxide Method (for ABS plastic)

You Will Need:

  • Hydrogen peroxide
  • Oxy laundry booster
  • Sunshine or UV light
  • Water
  • Bucket or large bowl
  • Rubber gloves
  • Goggles

Steps to Whiten the Plastic:

  1. Begin by protecting yourself with rubber gloves and goggles.
  2. Fill the bucket with hydrogen peroxide.
  3. Add ¼ teaspoon of Oxy laundry booster for each gallon of peroxide.
  4. Place the yellowed plastic pieces into the solution and allow them to soak.
  5. The soaking time will vary with most pieces whitening in 2-6 hours. The mixture will last for up to four days before it needs to be replaced. Retr0Bright has also developed a way to make this into a gel that can be spread onto the plastic. This is especially helpful for larger items.
  6. Set the items under a UV light or out in the sunshine.
  7. When the item has reached the desired whiteness, remove and rinse thoroughly to remove any remaining cleaning products.
  8. If necessary, wash with dish detergent and water.

Additional Tips and Ideas

  • While bleach can be an effective color remover, it may weaken the plastic over time.
  • Painting the plastic pieces (if they’re not food storage containers) with a clear acrylic varnish will help prevent them from turning yellow again.
  • For plastic pieces that are discolored from food dyes, see our article about How to Clean Food Dyes from Plastics.

smart car concepts car/truck/SUV

Following the sketches released last month, Smart has published new images and photos of the for-us, a compact pick-up concept equipped with the electric drivetrain that will be featured on the ForTwo electric drive, that will go on sale on next spring.
The drivetrain combines a 55 kW magneto-electric motor with a 17.6 kWh lithium-ion battery and allows a top speed of 120 km/h.
The rear loading area can hold two smart ebikes, that can be charged during the journey.
The design builds on the forspeed and forvision concepts, and combines the typical styling cues of the brand with a robust appearance.
For more details on the design check our previous article, or read on for the official details released by Smart.

From the official Press Release:

Exterior Design

Compared with the series-produced fortwo the smart for-us makes a powerful statement and its appearance plays with the martial image of conventional mega-pickups.
The large brand emblem is proudly sported on the grille, and the front has a pronounced three-dimensional design with an underride guard finishing off the lower part of the front end.
The for-us is raised by 50 millimetres as against the standard smart. In a later development stage the electric drive could be extended in the direction of a 4×4 with two front wheel hub motors.
The longer wheelbase (2480 mm/plus 613 mm) and the track that has been widened by 50 mm on each side also emphasize the robust look of the study.
At the same time the extremely short overhangs at the front and rear make it exceedingly compact and provoke supporters of conventional pickups.
The smart for-us rolls on Michelin off-road tires measuring 235/55 R 18. The wing nuts of the central mounts of the three-spoke wheels are an attractive detail: they fold out and then serve as a lever to release the wheel nuts.
The design of the rhombic front and tail lights is very striking and is reminiscent of the design of the smart forvision, which caused a stir at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September.
The outer rings illuminate the indicators and daytime running lamps with a large number of rod-shaped LEDs. The lamps seem to push outwards like arrows – like drops on the cockpit window of an airplane as it takes off.
The tail lights can even be opened and provide stowage space, for example for the charging cable or drinks cans for sporty bikers.
The tailboard at the rear of the smart for-us is electrically driven.
Remote control or touching the integrated touchpad retracts the cargo floor including tailboard by 280 mm, and the tailgate then slides down in a parallel position. The cargo on the 900 mm cargo area is then extremely easy to access.
The high-gloss white metallic paintwork of the smart for-us with the tridion cell in a grey textured finish also builds a bridge to the smart forspeed presented at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show, and to the smart ebike.
On the other hand, the honeycomb structure of the air inlets takes up an aspect of the smart forvision, which debuted at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September.
The subtle color accents in a warm yellow establish a further visual link to the interior.

Interior Design

The interior is characterized by the contrast between the surfaces in mother-of-pearl white and the functional elements in brushed aluminum.
The white metallized leather establishes a link to the instrument panel, which in turn is related to the body.
The headrests featuring metallic leather are a reference to the matt-finish textured paint of the tridion safety cell and – in line with the clean design – they largely dispense with seams.
Yellow adds highlights to the interior, for example on the seat belts and seat covers. Leather door trim provides a further high-quality contrast.
Like in the smart forvision, the whole cockpit boasts aerodynamic styling for interior ventilation.
The control and display elements are oriented to the driver. Just as the cockpit module divides the instrument panel, the two-spoke steering wheel is open at the top.
In place of a conventional rear-view mirror the smart for-us features a smartphone accommodated in a holder on top of the instrument panel support. The driver can see what is happening on the road behind with the help of an integrated video camera.
Stylish, uncomplicated, highly functional and easy to individualize – the two seats in the concept car are typically smart.
The seat shells, which are open in the middle, are covered with a soft fabric throw giving them a hammock-like seating feel.
When the seat cover on the passenger side is removed long items can be loaded through the seat of the smart for-us.
The study has yellow seat covers with a deep embossed silver hexagon pattern indicating a progression and thus emphasizing the vehicle’s dynamism.
As the covers can be removed in no time at all. The seats could even be used as avant-garde seating at home or when spontaneous seating is needed outdoors.
The cargo space has two slits for the front wheels of the smart ebikes.
A special docking station in the middle enables the ebikes to be charged whilst being transported on the smart for-us. And bicycle tools or other items can be accommodated in the stowage compartments on the right and left of the load space.

Muffler is 18" long and 6" in Diameter which means it fits into the stock Muffler hanger. Muffler gives a nice low tune and with tail pipe on is reasonably quiet inside the car. The two Stainless steel band clamps are for the cat, so you can remove it and put in the cat eliminator pipe at the track.
Kit is made up of 7 major components from the down pipes with laser cut 3/8" steel flange going into 1 5/8" primary tubes nicely "Y" cut and welded into 2 1/4" aluminized collector. The rest of the system is 2 1/4" aluminized tubing to the tail pipe. Pieces are sized for easy fit to their matching pieces, can be installed at home in the garage with car on jack stands.
Cat is a Magnaflow Universal High Flow PT# 94005 CA

Completely welded seams with laser cut 3/8" flange. Down pipes are acetone washed and painted with 1500 degree aluminum color header paint to protect the welds and flange from rusting.

Second pipe matches stock pieces and has welded on mount to match the stock mount at back of tranny.
Cat eliminator tube for track days, it is the same length as our Magnaflow 2 1/4" high flow two stage cat.
Third pipe runs from cat back between gas tanks and over the drive shaft just like the stock piece.
Fourth piece like the stock piece goes under the half shaft and up to the muffler, which mounts in the stock wrap around hanger.
Tail pipe gets the exhaust gases out the back of the car in the stock body half moon recess.

We will get more pictures of the system installed up soon, along with install instructions.

Vehicle Trim

The rain gutters come off quite easily, tho with it being tweaked that may complicate things a bit. Over the rear window there is a clip with a retaining screw underneath. The thing also has a spot of caulk that resists a little. Take it off and you will quickly see how to massage it off. They can be bought from Maximillian Imports. When you are putting it back on start at the front so that it lines up with the lower window strip nicely. If you start at the back/top you can easily come up long or short. Refer to the positioning of the other side. It's aluminum.
